Statement from Tom Etchison, HOA President

I know everyone has been concerned about the power being off. Also, many of you are looking at the Duke Energy web site about restoration dates and times. Crystal Lake now has its own set of problems concerning power restoration.

The power to Crystal Lake CAN NOT be restored until the water is cleared from the submerged electrical junction boxes next to Hogan Lane. Right now, the electrical junction boxes and Hogan Lane are under water.

Jamie has tried to hire anyone to remove the water. She has NOT been able to hire anyone to soak up the water and move the water to the empty retention pond close to hole 11. The EPA will not allow the water to be moved or pumped into the lake because of all the contamination.

I am working with Jamie to look at other options, but please be patient. Your park Management and myself are working hard trying to solve the problems so Duke can turn the power back on. New York is aware of the problems and Jamie has the authority to fix the problems if she can locate help to assist.

I am back in the park working with management to assist in any way I can. I know it is hard and frustrating but please be patient. We are doing everything we can to get the power back on and the water removed

Hurricane Insurance Tips
From Donna Witte

Since I worked in the insurance claim business for a very long time, I would encourage folks who have damage to read your policy with regard to what the policyholders responsibility is concerning protecting your property from further damages.

Most policies contain language that requires that be done.

If you are making any temporary repair, or anything you're doing to protect your property, keep a record of those expenses AND your labor hours and present that claim to the company also. Same goes for debris removal. Keep good records and take lots of pictures if you can.

If your house is not livable, ask about "additional living expense coverage" on your policy which pays for ADDITIONAL COSTS for you to live elsewhere until your home is habitable.

Keep in mind that all of the above applies to a loss that is covered by your policy.

If you have questions ask your agent or the claims Dept.
